Best Time to Visit
Tsavo East is best during the **dry seasons: June to October and January to February**. The vast semi-arid landscape means wildlife congregates around the Galana River and permanent waterholes in dry months, making sightings reliable. The red dust gives elephants their famous crimson coat. **November to December** (short rains) is green and beautiful with fewer tourists. **March to May** (long rains) can make some roads impassable.

KWS park fee $52/adult/day. KWS bandas and campsites $20-50/night. Mid-range lodges (Voi Safari Lodge, Ashnil Aruba) $100-250/night. Luxury camps (Satao Camp) $300-600/night. Self-drive is popular — 4x4 recommended but 2WD possible on main routes.
Getting There
Tsavo East is 333km (5 hours) from Nairobi via the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Enter through Mtito Andei gate (main) or Voi gate (south). The Nairobi-Mombasa SGR train stops at Mtito Andei (2.5 hours from Nairobi). Airstrips at Voi and Ithumba serve charter flights from Nairobi Wilson. Self-drive is popular on the well-maintained murram roads.
